Request for assistance to locate at risk missing person last seen at  Weston General Hospital, WSM CRO Liaised by phone with duty polsar and control room re best use and deployment of search teams, together with best use of available local police resources prior to the teams arrival. Further to this missing person located prior to teams arrival.
16 18/11/06 17:16hrs
The team was called by the A&S police at 17.16 hrs. to a female who had jumped from a bridge called Devils Bridge, which is where the main A370 road crosses the main railway line. She was reported to have fallen 60ft down into a tree, which had broken her fall. Her injuries were reported to be back, neck and lower left leg problems. The Avon Fire and Rescue, line rescue team was also in attendance. The casualty was lowered down to the railway line where the team paramedic, first responder, and two ambulance technicians were waiting to transport her to the waiting ambulance. A railway repair vehicle was used to transport her the 1km to the ambulance. She was taken to Weston General A&E. The team was stood down at about 20.00 hrs.
15 30/10/06 14:45hrs
At 14.45 the team was called by South West Ambulance Trust, Somerset Fire Control, and the Avon and Somerset Police control room, to an incident in Cheddar Gorge The incident was to a 47 year old female who was believed to be having a heart attack at the base of French Pinnacle. When the team arrived, they found that two, fire first responders were with the casualty. The team took over operational responsibility, delivered two paramedics to the casualty, and then successfully lowered to the road. The casualties family who were with her at the time were walked off to safety. The police closed the road for about two hours. The casualty was later released, in good health. A debrief was held by the Fire incident controller, who thanked the team for their assistance. The team was stood down at 18.15.
14 16/09/06 17:00hrs
On the evening of Saturday the 16th of September, the team was called to the Somerset side of the Avon Gorge Suspension Bridge to assist with the rescue of a woman who reportedly fell from the parapet. On arrival the Fire & Rescue Service had already located the woman & a paramedic was also on scene, she had unfortunately suffered fatal injuries. The team organised the recovery of all personnel at the scene back up to the parapet. During this operation the team were also contacted to provide search assistance for an ‘at risk’ missing person search in the South of Somerset. Given the lateness of the hour & the ongoing operation, it was agreed that we would provide handover capability at first light the following morning. We were contacted later that night to be advised that the missing person had been found safe & well.
13 15/08/06 21:50hrs
The team was called by the PULSA inspector at 21.50 hrs. The incident was to a missing 6 year boy who had severe autism, was afraid of the dark, and had set routines. His family had returned from a walk in the Dundry area, and he was not with them. The Team was called to RV at 23.00. The police were advised to contain the area by regular vehicle patrol. One of these patrols found the boy safe and well at about 22.45. The team was stood down.

The police support unit were called to a missing person in Bishop Sutton on the evening of 29 July. A discussion with the CRO resulted in the team being called at 12.00 noon the next day. The incident was to a  missing 67 year old male. The Team searched open country, and the Fisheries launched a boat to search Chew Valley Lake. The man was found by the police to have taken his own life. The Team was stood down at19.00. 30 July. Letter of thanks from Avon & Somerset Police.

11 25/06/06 15:45hrs
The team was called to an incident at Heartleaf Bluff in Cheddar Gorge. Three people were reported (2 female 1 male) crag fast in the area of Heartleaf Bluff. On arrival at the scene, the male (25 years old) had just reached the road and was safe. The two females (21 and 23 years old) had reached the relative safety of the French Pinnacle foot track but were refusing to come down. A cliff hasty team was dispatched, and a hand line was set up. The females were poorly dressed for the environment, wearing flip flops and one, a skirt. They were recovered safely to the road and the incident was closed at 19 .15.
10 24/06/06 11:00hrs

The team was called to search for a missing, extremely vulnerable  male of 16 yrs old. He had left his residential care home in the early hours wearing only his pyjamas and because of his low mental age, it was felt he would be unable to find his way back home. The police POLSA organised a search that included ASCRT, Exmoor SAR, Police helicopter, Police dogs and horses. Arial support was given by the Coastguard helicopter from Portland. The search was based on a hamlet to the south of Somerton. The male was found safe and well in a supermarket, in Yeovil  at about 18.00. The team was stood down.

9 16/06/06 01:30hrs
At 01.30hrs two members of the team who were working in Cardiff on the night of 15/16 06 06, were passing the Gabalfa Flyover  on the A470 when they spotted a potential suicide jumper. The ASCRT team members happened to have a large amount of cliff rescue/rope safety equipment with them. The South Wales Police Superintendent requested assistance with, strategy planning, negotiation skills and line rescue/security at heights. The incident was successfully resolved at 03.00hrs. The Avon and Somerset Police were informed of the teams involvement in this incident
8 15/06/06 18:20hrs
Team called out to a missing person (Lady aged 75)  in North Petherton with Exmoor SRT and Police Helicopter Q99. Found unharmed at 22.49, team stood down.
7 06-06-06 11:00hrs

The team was called at 11.30 by the duty POLSA. The incident was  a missing 52 year old female. She was ill, in a lot of pain and had a lethal dose of painkillers with her. She could barely walk. The team was asked to RV at Wincanton Police Station, and was deployed to the village of Templecombe. The team provided an incident controller, Search Manager, and 18 personnel. The search was centred on the middle of the village, and involved police horses, police dogs, police underwater search team and thermal imaging from the police helicopter. The team was stood down at 22.00hrs. Nothing was found.

6 27-05-06 06:48hrs

Team Co-responded with the Fire Brigade line rescue team to a man stuck in Avon Gorge at the request of the Police. Man recovered to ground level without incident, team stood down at 07:40.

5 13-05-06 13:29hrs

The team was involved in a cliff demonstration in Cheddar Gorge. A member of the public noticed that a couple, descending via the scree in New Quarry looked anxious and nervous. The team responded and led the couple to safety.

4 23-04-06 22:58hrs
72 year old male. Diabetic-alzimers & dog. Missing in Martock South Somerset. Team placed on standby at 22:58. Man found alive further to team advice at 23:48.
3 17-04-06 17:30hrs

The team was put on standby by the police at 17:30 on Easter Monday, 17 April 06. They were responding to a call from Somerset Fire Service. There was a report of a person in a crag fast position, in  a quarry near Frome. The situation rapidly resolved its self, and the team was stood down at 17:45.

Team placed on standby during Brunel 200 celebrations in Avon. A few minor incidents throughout the evening despite 10,000+ people in and around Avon Gorge.
1 01-01-06 13:00hrs

80 year old male reported missing at about noon.  He had not been seen since 2am in the morning on the 1st January.  The team was called by Taunton control room asking for our advice and possible assistance.  Suggested Q99 (helicopter) and a quick search of the immediate area of his last known position.  Exmoor SRT and Dorset Lowland SRT were also called. The Hasty Search proved successful with the man being found alive but very hypothermic.  The team was stood down at 1530hrs.
