| 34 | 23/11/07 | The team was called out at 09:04 by the A&S Police to a potential suicide at the top of Avon Gorge. The police were negotiating with the man, and the technical rescue team assembled at Avon Quay. The man was recovered to safety at 10:30 and the team was stood down. |
| 33 | 04/11/07 | Just after midnight, GWAS control called FR35 to an anaphylactic male (peanut induced) in Burrington Combe. On arrival at scene it was apparent that the casualty was in the Dolbury area. The paramedic and Technician were loaded into SX and an attempt was made to find him by searching through the Rowberrow woods. The police helicopter was called to assist in the search and possible carry off. The casualty was eventually located on top of Dolbury Hillfort, at about 01:30. the weather prevented Q99 from landing; so a carry out was arranged in SX, back to the ambulance that was waiting at Burrington. The incident was closed at 02:45. |
| 32 | 25/10/07 | The A&S police called the Mendip CRO at 22:20 to report a missing person in the Priddy area. Further investigation revealed that it was in fact a caver who was in difficulty in Swildon's Hole. The cave rescue team (MRO) was called and they extracted a hypothermic male from the cave. Everyone was stood down at 00:30. |
| 31 | 14/10/07 | At 20:05 the team was called to search for a missing 68 year old male in East Coker near Yeovil. The man suffers from Alzheimer's disease, and had been missing since lunch time.DORSAR were also called by the police to assist with the search. The man was found at about 21:30 and the team was stood down.' ‘Whilst returning from this incident the Chief rescue officer was tasked to an unrelated incident, involving an abandoned car in the road near Green Ore. A very brief hasty search revealed no obvious casualties and the incident was left to the police to conclude their enquires'. Stand down and log closure took place at 23:30. |
| 30 | 28/09/07 | The team attended Suspension Bridge Buttress, Avon Gorge, Bristol,
further to a 999 call that a female had fallen; the female luckily had
come to rest a short distance from the top with no apparent major
injuries and was recovered to the ground by AFRS personnel. The A&SSAR
rescue team remained on scene throughout the operation in case of any
complications and to provide advise, safety and rescue cover for the
fire service, and police and GWAS personnel on scene. |
| 29 | 22/09/07 | The team was called by the A&S Police to a cliff incident at Cheddar gorge at 17:45. The incident was reported to be a family of four, stuck on the ledges at Land Slip Quarry. One person was reported as having fallen. On arrival at the scene, it was quickly established, that the ‘faller' was a goat, and the family had moved to a place of safety. However, two other, unrelated incidents occurred, at the same time. A young male broke his leg playing football, and a climber fell and broke both his ankles. The team attended to both incidents, and handed the patients over to South West Ambulance, at 19:30. |
| 28 | 11/09/07 | A&SSAR were requested to attend Observatory Buttress Avon Gorge
Bristol were a person had been seen to fall, further to a local search
by team members together with Police AFRS and GWAS personnel, a body
was located at the cliff base. At the request of the Police team
members recovered the remains and transferred these the Coroners
Officers. |
| 27 | 09/09/07 | An A&SSAR Chief Rescue Officer was requested to attend an incident at
Tythington Old Quarry, S.Glos. To advise & liase with the AFRS line
rescue team and local retained crew re the recovery of an adult Husky
dog that had fallen into the quarry and sustained multiple fractures to
its pelvis and back right leg. The animal was recovered and transferred
alive and without further harm to the care of a vet to attend to its
injurys. |
| 26 | 08/09/07 | Team called to Clevedon to rescue two persons that had fallen down an
old and disused quarry cliff face and were now stuck between the cliff
face and a building that had now been built in very close proximity to
it, team stood down whilst still on route further to efforts of the
local retained AFRS crew who had managed to improvise access down to
the casualtys with a cross lashed extendable ladder. |
| 25 | 03/09/07 | The team were alerted and put on stand by for an incident in Burrington Combe at 13:37. A middle aged male, was having a heart problem at the entrance to Goatchurch Cavern. The Fire Service and GWAS organised the carry off. The A&S SAR; Bell Stretcher was on hand if it had been required. The team was stood down at 14:11. |
| 24 | 02/09/07 | The team was called at 14:59 on Sunday 2 nd September, to a vulnerable missing 63 year old male from his address near Weston Super Mare. The callout message was relayed to us via Exmoor search and Rescue Team, who also attended the Search. A&S SAR provided a Search Manager, Chief Rescue officer and three search teams. The Police provided a dog unit, two Support Groups, and Q99 helicopter. The Weston and Clevedon Coast guard, searched the coast and some of the River Banwell. In all, 60 people were involved in the search, and although nothing was found before dark, the patient was admitted to A&E at 03:00 suffering from an over dose. |
| 23 | 30/08/07 | A&SSAR attended Uphill Quarry Weston Super Mare to a call of a
teenager who had fallen and a second still stuck on the Quarrys cliff
face, the team attended with AFRS, WsM Coastguard, SWAS & the Police,
the injured teenager was removed to hospital and the other was
successfully rescued from the cliff face safe and well but shaken by
the ordeal. |
| 22 | 25/08/07 | The team were called by the police at 16.23 on Saturday 25 August, to help with a search for a missing male. The missing person was an 81 year old male, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. He had been missing from his address in Whitchurch near Bristol , since the previous day. The team met at an RV in Whichurch at 16:55, and searched until ‘stand down' at 21:00 in support of a police ‘support group' and ‘POLSAR'. Nothing was found. |
| 21 | 05/08/07 | The team was called by the police at 09:45 to a cliff faller at an old disused quarry, near the village of Brompton Ralph ; on the Devon/Somerset border. On arrival at the scene, the Dorset and Somerset air ambulance was in attendance, with the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. The RAF, SAR helicopter from Chivenor was called and winched the casualty to safety. The team was stood down at 11:35. |
| 20 | 22/07/07 | Team tasked to assist with 4X4 vehicle & crew for lifeboat haulage
dutys operating with SARA rescue boats & crews in the Tewkesbury area
of Gloucestershire
Team members of ASSR and SARA also returned to the flooded areas on a
voluntary basis to help with the humanitarian and community welfare
effort.
Considerable damage was sustained to vehicles and equipment during the
emergency life saving rescue phase of these flood rescue operations.
The considerable effort made by our support partners, in local garages,
ensured that the damaged team vehicles were returned to full Rescue
Ready' status by 15:00 on Tuesday 23 rd July, with vehicles repaired

| 18 | 20/07/07 | At about 19:30 on Friday 20 July, the Gold Control Centre, responded
FR35 through EMDC. The water rescue' section of ASSR was also co-
responded. In all 7 team members attended the flood incidents directly.
Handling many medical emergencies, removed many people to a place of
safety, and searched vast areas of floodwater, buildings and submerged
vehicles for missing people. In addition the teams Emergency Ambulance
was also deployed and held at a location in South Gloucestershire with
a crew of 3 as a reserve unit, available for deployment north into the
main flood areas of Glos. or west to the Forest of Dean. We worked in
close association with SARA and all other statutory emergency services,
including the RAF / RN & Coastguard SAR helicopters. The team was
deployed into various parts of Gloucestershire, including the Forest of
Dean , and then into Tewkesbury . The team members worked all through
the night and into the Saturday morning, contributing, in all to the
safe removal of over 1,000 people. One missing person' is still
unaccounted for at this time. The team was stood down by Gold Control'
at 10:30 Saturday, 21st July. |

Team called to the Leigh Woods side of the Clifton Suspension Bridge . At this time it is believed that the man was sitting on the parapet wall near the tower and rolled backwards off the wall. He fell approx 40ft to the ground breaking his fall in a tree on the way down. He suffered two breaks to an arm, a dislocated elbow and a small puncture wound. In conjunction with the Ambulance service and Fire Brigade the man was give treatment on scene before being recovered to the road level. Incident finished approx 21.15 |

He had left his bicycle, and all his personal belongings, at the end of a track near Home Farm. Despite a thorough search of the surrounding area nothing was found. The team was stood down at 21:30. |

The Police called the team at 20:12hrs after a climber called them to say his climbing partner was stuck on the observatory platfrom under the camera obscura. The team arrived and sent two members over the cliff to securely take him to the ground where paramedics could check him. Cheddar Gorge opposite Coach Park - Goat seen on opposite side and reported by several tourists to Police, a response was requested as dusk was falling. Several Team Members went to the seen and advised local PC H&S risk to great in relation to a goat that seemed to be enjoying a nice bit of vegetation. |

Police called team at 20:49hrs following concerns from Suspension Bridge staff for several people seen moving at the top of Battleship Butress approx 200 hundred feet up the Avon Gorge and possibly trying to light a fire. It was unclear if these were benighted climbers or 'Ghecko like' revellers looking for a secluded BBQ. Members of the Rescue Team attended the callout and on arrival voices could be heard from the area below the cliff tops. Police voiced offers of assistance and enquired about wellbeing but no response was recieved. Team members made visual searches with spotlights of the cliff tops, and edges. Two members made their way to the top of the Butress and to Gollums Cave. No persons were found in the area |

A 30-year-old man slipped and fell 30ft (9m) down Cheddar Gorge in Somerset while out with friends. Marcus Cook, who is from Salisbury, was lying 20ft (6m) up on some shingle at Frenchman's Pinnacle for two hours. Thirteen members of Avon and Somerset Search and Rescue team were called to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 0850 GMT. Paramedics believe he has a broken elbow and may need surgery. He was taken to Weston-super-Mare's hospital. His friend said they were walking along landslip quarry when Mr Cook slipped past him and began to roll down the mountain. Ben Tresham said: "It was quite possibly one of the most frightening things that has every happened in my life. " |

The team was called by the Police to a location near Bridgewater for assistance in the search for an 'at risk' male of 49 years of age who had gone missing on Sunday morning (18th February). Along with the team menbers there was a force of Police Officers, Police Horses, Police Dogs and Police Helicopter involved with the search which was concluded at dusk and in spite of a considerable area being covered he was not found. |

At 18:00hrs the A&S SAR was called by the police POLSAR to discuss the case of a missing person. A conference was held at Wells Police Station between the POLSAR, local Chief Inspector, Chief Rescue Officer and Senior Park warden. The 'misper' was a 25 year old wamon who lived in a caravan with a local 'Druid' at Wookey Hole. She had been missing since Jan 25th and was a known dispondent, Bi-Polar, Manic Depressive. Due to the time of day, the rough terrain, freezing weather and forecast of snow; it was resolved to commence a search within 1.2km of the caravan the next morning. At 08:30hrs on 7th the team RV'd at Wells Police Station and was tasked to search the cliffs and woodland around Milton Hill. Special 'hasty' teams were dispatched to known 'Druid' sites in the local area. The search continued until 13:00hrs when the team stood down. Nothing was found. |
