ASC open log number. The team was again requested to assist the ambulance service, due to exceptionally cold weather and an increased demand in the SWAST area that GWAS was assisting. SV was again used in Bristol and SX was responded to local emergency incidents in the Mendip area.

ASC log no. 006 The Severe Weather ‘Gold’ control at GWAS contacted the CRO requesting assistance with 4x4 ambulance driving at 00:31. The team vehicles SX and SV were made available to EOC (ambulance control) and driver shifts were arranged all through the night. SV was used as paramedic escort in the Bristol area and SX was used as the conveying emergency ambulance, out of Churchill station. The team was stood down by Gold control at 08:45.

ASC log No 778 (18/12/09). The PolSA contacted the CRO about a missing female believed to be in the Tormarton area. She was known to be despondent with a young infant in hospital. The search team was called at 15:10. A control post was established near the village of Tormarton and the female was located, safe and well near-by. The team was stood down at 22:41

ASC log 558. Police control alerted the CRO, to a missing person in the West Pennard area of Somerset. The female was missing from a sheltered home near by. As the weather was so cold, it was decided to mount a search at 16:00. Q99 the police helicopter was in the air and a search pattern was agreed, over Queen’s Sedgemoor. The female was located safe and well at 17:18 and the team was stood down.

ASC log 231. The police control requested assistance with a search for a missing person in the Wrington area at 10:52. Contact was made with the PolSA but the person was fortunately located by the police on the ground at 11:05. The team was stood down.

ASC log 023 The police control room and AFRS control called the CRO at 00:58 hrs. The call was confirmed by GWAS ambulance control. A female was acting suspiciously on the Clifton Bridge and our team presence was requested. The CRO organised a selective call to members of the technical rescue team that live close to Clifton. The woman was returned to a place of safety, and the team was stood down.

ASC 246. The CRO was called to give tactical and location advise to the police who were dealing with a vulnerable mis-per in Cheddar Gorge at 09:45. The police and CRO made contact with the male, who was later moved to a place of safety. Stand down at 10:45.

Log 755. The CRO was called at 16:20 by police control, to an incident involving a vulnerable missing male. His exact location was unknown, but he reported seeing red lights in the sky, somewhere between Cheddar and Wells. The RAF SAR helicopter was deployed and police search dogs were sent into Stock Hill wood. A member of the public found the mis-per near Lillypool close to Shipham. The male was recovered to a place of safety and the team was stood down at 21:15

ASC log 755. The police control in Taunton called the CRO to assist with the search for a mis-per at 16:35. A vulnerable male was reported missing in the Cheddar Gorge area, possibly wandering towards the mast at Pen Hill. A control point was established in Priddy and the search team was called at 16:45. The casualty was located by a member of the public in a safe place, and after a brief medical assessment the police took him home. The team was stood down at 17:45.

ASC Log 390. The CRO was called by police control at Taunton to a possible mis-per being found in Cheddar Gorge at 12:10 hrs. The police found the missing person, but no medical assistance was required. The technical rescue team was called in to assist with the incident and the FRS was on hand. The incident was resolved at 17:00 and the team was stood down.

ASC log 743. The team was notified of an ongoing incident in Avon Gorge by GWAS ambulance control at 16:00. This was followed by requests for assistance from AFRS and ASC. The tech rescue team assisted with this incident and was stood down at 18:30.

ASC log 1109. The search team was called to an incident involving a vulnerable female who was missing from an address in Yatton, at 22:59. A hasty search was made along a footpath known as the ‘Strawberry line’ between Yatton and Congresbury. The search was suspended at 03:15 and resumed at 11:00 the next day. The missing person was located by the team at about 17:30. the incedaent was concluded and the team stood down at 19:30.

ASC log 608. The AFRS called for backup from the technical rescue team at 15:54, to an incident in the Old Quarry Shirehampton. A small boy was reported to have fallen into the quarry. By the time the team had responded the paramedics and secured the boy and the FRS extracted him. The team was stood down at 16:22.

ASC log 346. The AFRS called the team at 11:06 to notify us that they were attending an incident at Long Ashton Quarry. A dog was reported to be stuck on a cliff. No action was taken.

ASC log 959. The CRO received a ‘back up’ call from AFRS at 17:45. An incident was ongoing on the Avon motorway bridge (M5 South Bound). Silent approach was advised. The incident was concluded at 19:35

The CRO received a ‘back up’ call from Avon Fire and rescue service at 09:24. A worker on a building site in Bristol had been electrocuted on the roof of a building. The incient was complete at 10:30.

The CRO was alerted at 22:20 to an incident occurring on the Clifton Bridge. A vulnerable female was at risk. The CRO monitored the event on police radio, and after a successful out come stood down at 23:10.

ASC log 470. The CRO was alerted to four missing youths on Exmoor. The full search team was put on stand by at 15:50. The police were advised to use the Exmoor park rangers to patrol the roads and one youth was located at 16:10. By 16:20 all four had been located and moved to a place of safety. The team was stood down at 16:27. Exmoor SAR team was not involved in this incident.

The CRO was contacted by police control whilst returning from the previous job in Cheddar. He was asked to attend the Clifton Suspension Bridge where a young female was in a dangerous position on the structure. A select number of tech team members were called, in case the incident developed further. The team acted as intermediaries and assisted the police in talking the female to a place of safety. Stand down at 03:30.

ASC Log 1122. The technical rescue team was called to a fallen climber in Cheddar Gorge at 18:56. The female was in the Old/landslip quarry area and was reported to have fallen 80 ft. An RAF SAR seaking was called and winched the casualty to safety. The D&S FRS were in attendance. The team was stood down at 21:30.

ASC log:1015 The whole search team was called to an incident in Kewstoke near Weston Super Mare, by police control at 23:58. A search of the area including Worlebury woods was planned. The male later turned up at his home address. The team was stood down at 02:10.

ASC log 510 At 16:20 the technical rescue team was called to a male climber who was reported fallen in the Avon Gorge. The incident was resolved with the assistance of the AFRS line rescue team. The team was stood down at 20:50.

ASC log 825 The CRO was pre-called by Cheddar Caves Office, and alerted to the possibility of a fallen male, at the top of Cheddar Gorge. The CRO notified the police and other emergency services. The technical rescue team was called at 17:55. The young male was found to have back pain, so was stretchered down to the road. Stand down at 19:24.

ASC log 830. The CRO was called at 16:55 by police control asking for assistance with a male who was on a ledge in Cheddar gorge. The team acted on behalf of the police as intermediaries and successfully recovered the man to a place of safety. Stand down at 20:50.

The police requested assistance from the technical team at 19:12, with a vulnerable person who was at the top of Avon Gorge. The incident was successfully completed at 19:40 and the team was stood down.

The Search team was put on stand by to assist with a search for a vulnerable missing person somewhere on Mendip at 14:42. The search was completed at 18:59 and the team was stood down.

ASC log 867. The CRO was called by police control to assist the ambulance service, at 17:23, with a carry off of a female patient at the top of Cheddar Gorge. The lady had lower limb injuries, and was carried to a waiting Dorset and Somerset air ambulance. Stand down at 19:16 hrs.

ASC log no. 776: fire no. 8453: ambulance incident 0907210478. The CRO was contacted by police and fire control room at 17:25. A male was at in risky position at the top of the Sea Walls. The tech team was put on standby at 17:47. The incident was resolved by the FRS line rescue team and the CRO. The team was stood down at 18:07.

ASC log 618. Whilst taking the Cliff van to the garage the CRO noticed an incident on the top of Sea walls, Clifton Gorge. After talking to a female, the incident was resolved and the police were informed. The inident happened at about 14:30.

ASC log 641. The police control room called the CRO, to request assistance with the search for a missing person in Worlebury woods, Weston-super-Mare. Assistance was sought from both the technical and search teams. The teams searched for approximately 4hours, but nothing was found. The team was put on standby at17:24, called out at17:41 and stood down at 22:30.

ASC Log 929. Police and fire control contacted the CRO about an incident in Weston Super Mare. A female had driven over a 20ft drop and her car was balanced over the top. The tech team was called at18:02; the female was removed to safety, and the team was stood down at 18:27.

ASC log 1065. The CRO was called by police control to discuss a vulnerable missing person in Frome. When his car was located about 45 minutes later, near the edge of some woodland near the Longleat Estate, it was decided to call the Search team out at 23:15. A hasty search plan was discussed, which proved successful and the incident was resolved at 23:58. The team was stood down.

SC log 1183 - The police control requested assistance, with a male who was believed to have fallen from the Second Severn Crossing from the M4. The CRO was dispatched to assist the emergency services with rescue advice. The team was put on standby at 19:40 and was stood down at 21:54.

ASC log 919 - Ambulance control and police control reported a mountain biker, who had a accident in Roberrow Forest. The CRO (first responder) was dispatched to assist the crew in locating and carrying the male out of the forest. Callout 15:50. Stand down 16:55.

The police control called the CRO to alert him of a possible body on Clifton Gorge. This sighting was confirmed by Q99 the police helicopter, and the team was called to assist with the incident. Callout at 13:05, stand down at 15:35.

ASC log 105 - The ambulance control EOC and police called for assistance to a man who was reported to have fallen 80ft over the sea wall onto rocks, at Birnbeck Road. Weston Super Mare. The team provided a first responder who advised on how the man should be safely extracted from the beach. Callout at 03:15 and stand down at 04:45

ASC log 868 - The police control called for assistance from the technical team to assist with a man who had fallen 60ft from a roof in Stapleton, Bristol, behind a wall, close to the M32. The team was called at15:53 and stood down at 16:27.

The CRO was called by police control, to a missing person incident in Weston Super Mare. The team was called at 15:34 and told to RV and Weston Police Station. The male was 56 years old and was believed to be in the Uphill area of Weston. The man was located on Uphill Common, and moved by team ambulance to a safe place where is was transferred to an ambulance. The team was stood down at 16:43.

The CRO was contacted by police control, alerting the team of a missing Seven year old in Bridgwater in Somerset. The team was put on standby at 18:40, whist the CRO discussed a search plan with the crew\of Q99, the police helicopter. The boy was located by the helicopter and the team was stood down at 18:47.

Log ASC 866 Tech team called initially to assist with an ambulance GWAS incident, and then by fire AFRS, to the area of St Vincent Rocks, Avon Gorge. Bristol. As a Male was reported to have fallen. Callout was at 17:21 Casualty was located and found to have actually fallen into a disused Well or Shaft, the male assisted out of his predicament (beleaved to have had some form of anxiety attack) and attended by GWAS. Team Stand down at 17:43

Tech team called to assist Great Western Air Ambulance GWAS to a man who had fallen from a large tree in a plantation,(this accident is believed to have happened whilst he was trying to assist some youngsters down from the tree) in the Ham Green / Pill Area of North Somerset nr Bristol. The male was treated on scene and transported to a specialist unit by GWAA and some of the youngsters were also treated by GWAS crews and transported to local hospitals for further care (total casualties five) Tech team to Stand by at 18:14 and stand down 18:40

Log ASC 1122 - A Text book repeat of the previous evenings missing person search of the Worlebury Hill, Weston Super Mare. This time for a apparently totally unrelated despondent male (coincidently also from the same general home area) Teams Called out at 16:00 and Stand down at 23:00 Male not located at that time.

Log ASC 754 - Missing person search, as a part of a more global operation by ASC, team members of the Technical and Search Teams were tasked to search the Worlebury Hill, area of Weston Super Mare. North Somerset. For a despondent Female from the North Midlands area. This was done in conjunction with ASC Support group personnel, The female was not located that evening but was found alive and well the early the following morning close by (after it is believed spending the night in rented local accommodation) team Call out at 20:07 Search suspended and Tempary Stand down 23:00 Search operations ended approx 10:00 27/5/09

Log ASC AFRS 3988 - Tech team response with Fire AFRS and GWAA to an male in Sandford near Winscombe. Male reported to have fallen some distance from a ladder into a pit / excavation. This transpired into a relatively simple extraction and the team was stood down whilst still on route Callout 10:14 Stand down 10:24

Log ASC 856 AFRS 4016 - Tech team callout to woman who had reportedly fallen over a cliff, possibly now in the River Frome in the area of Snuff Mills, Stapleton Gorge, Oldbury Court Estate, Bristol. RV with Fire AFRS, Air Ambulance GWAA and Police ASC at River View, Stapleton. On arrival in conjunction with multiple other assets it was found that the female had luckily not received any major injury or harm and had now walked out to the access bridge adjacent to the RV point, she wsa escorted to a waiting ambulance and cared for by GWAS / GWAA crews. Team Callout 18:34 and Stand down at 18:53

Tech team response to a woman (reportedly also both violent and aggressive) on a ledge in Cheddar Gorge. Attended with Avon & Somerset Police, Local Police assets in attendance engaged to female and the woman was safely “talked down” to a place of safety. team Call out was at 01:30.and Stand down 02:15

Log ASC 462 - Tech team tasked to respond and advise / assist Fire AFRS with a male trapped 5 meters down an inspection pit at Southmead Hospital Bristol. Male was released from his entrapment and assisted from the pit Call out 12:18 Stand down 12:32

The fire and rescue control alerted the team at 12:04 to a male who had fallen five meters and was trapped in an inspection pit at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. The CRO notified the police and HEMS desk at GWAS. The team was put on standby. The duty critical care paramedic was dispatched to the scene, and the man was recovered safely to the surface. The team was stood down at 12:34.

Log ASC 688 - Four Search teams, and a search management advisor, with 4x4 capability and Comm’s support were responded to a search for a at risk missing person, male 86 yrs old, around the Dundry Hill area of Bath and North East Somerset. Callout 21:10. located alive and uninjured stand down 23:00

The team was called by the police to assist in the search for a missing 85 year old male, believed to be in the Dundry Hill area to the South of Bristol at 21:10 hrs. A helicopter from Devon and Cornwall police assisted with the search. The gentleman was found, alive and well, by police in Central Bristol, and the team was stood down at 23:58hrs.

Shortly after standing down the River Avon incident, and departing the scene, the CRO was called by the police to advise on locating the whereabouts of a missing eight year old vulnerable female in central Bath. By the time the team could be put on standby, the incident was resolved.

The CRO was called by Wiltshire EOC ambulance control, asking for rescue team assistance with a person who was in the water in the River Avon in Bath. A police log number was established, and the water rescue team was called at 15:32 with instructions to RV at Homebase in Bath. The person was located by the police ‘underwater search team’ and the necessary formalities conducted. The team was stood down at 20:07.

The CRO was called by Fire Control to notify the team of a vehicle that had gone over a 40ft embankment into a river near Yate. The police mobilised the team at 18:15. The occupants of the vehicle were recovered to safety. The team was stood down by fire control at 18:44, but the police maintained a forensic watch until 19:00.

The CRO was called at 01.40 hrs by police control. A male had been seen falling into the River Avon in central Bristol at the bottom of a 40ft wall near the docks. Ambulance control (EOC) reported that another male had joined the first male on the mud by the river. Fire control confirmed the attendance of AFRS. The Central Bristol tech/water team was called out at 02:05 Hrs. About fifteen minutes later it was reported that both males were safe, and the team was stood down at 02:20.

The CRO was called by the Avon Fire control room at 10:35 to advise of a person seen falling from a cliff in Weston Super Mare. The CRO called the responder paramedic who was in WSM and put the team on stand-by. The technical rescue team was called at 10:50. The tech rescue team assisted the AFRS and Police with this incident, which involved recovering a male from a cliff in the woods inland from WSM. The incident was completed and the team was stood down at 14:37.

The CRO was alerted by ambulance control to an incident developing in ‘Burrington Combe’at11:59. This turned out to be a mountain bike accident on Black down about half a mile from the road at Lower Ellick farm. The team was put on stand by at 12:25, in case of the need for assistance with a carry out to the road. In the event the HEMS helicopter was used and the team was stood down at 13:41.

The police duty PolSA called the CRO at 15:30 to seek advice about a missing 85yr old female in Weston Super Mare. The team was put on stand by at 15:50, and discussions continued between the PolSA and CRO. The police began a search using a Support Group and dogs along the beach/sea front. The female was located and the team was stood down at 16:50.

During a search and rescue training session at Ashton Court the CRO was called by ambulance control, and police control at 12:19. There was a report of a cliff faller at the bottom end of Bridge Valley Road. A young female was located at the bottom of the cliff, and the situation was dealt with by the HEMS doctor. The technical team was assembled at 13:20 to carry out a forensic abseil, on behalf of SOCO/CSI. The team was stood down at 16:23.

The CRO was advised by police control at 01:30, that a person was believed to be acting suspiciously on the Clifton Bridge, and queried its relevance to the missing person in Eastville. The person turned out to be a young female, who was subsequently, safely coached to the ground and taken to a place of safety by the police. The incident was closed at 01:45

The CRO was called to a RTC at Upper Winterstoke Road whilst en route to the above incident at 00:35. Two young females were badly injured in the incident, and were taken to Frenchay hospital. Paramedics and HEMS staff were called to the scene. The incident was cleared at 01:30.

The CRO was called just after midnight (00:01) by police control. A 71 year old male was missing in the St Pauls/ Eastville area of Bristol. The search team was assembled at Trinity Road Police Station. The man was successfully located and the team was stood down at 02:10. Police dogs were used to assist with the search.

The CRO was notified by Avon Fire Control that they had been called to a dog on a cliff at Aust near the River Severn at 16:37. The technical rescue team was put on standby, whilst the Fire Service removed the dog. No action was required. The team was stood down at 17:32.

The CRO was called at 11:07 by Exmoor Search and Rescue Team. This was followed by a call from the duty PolSA. An 83 year old male was missing from an address in Chard. The search team was called and assembled in Chard. After five hours of local area searching, the man was found, safe and well, by police in Taunton. The team was stood down at 15:41.

The CRO was contacted by Avon Fire and Rescue control at 16:07. This was followed by a call from the police control. A male was reported to be acting strangely at the top of Sea Walls in Avon Gorge. Police interviewed the man and the team was stood down at 16:18.

The Cheddar Police requested assistance with a mis-per search, for a male who had gone missing from Shepton Mallet who was believed to be in the Cheddar area. The search team was called during our attendance at a technical rescue, also in Cheddar Gorge. The male was later located by the police and the search team was stood down at 18:00.

The CRO was called by the police control room to an incident in Cheddar Gorge at 14:15. The Technical rescue team were deployed and searched the cliff top area around Sunset Buttress. The Coastguard SAR helicopter from Portland was also deployed. Nothing was found, but a witness later stated that he had seen some BASE jumping parachutes deploy from the top of High Rock Cliffs. The Team was stood down at about 18:15.

The CRO was alerted by police control, fire control and HEMS control, at 13:25. The technical rescue team was put on standby to quarry worker who was trapped and required immediate assistance. When HEMS/paramedics arrived on scene it was established that the man had self released, and the team was stood down at 13:30, no action having being taken.

The CRO was called by the police control room to assist with a search for a missing 85 year old Male in Weston Super Mare at about 17:30 hrs. The police helicopter and ambulance service were also alerted. The casualty was located about 200 meters from his home, and was escorted to hospital by paramedic in a police van. Stand down at 18:45.

The CRO was alerted by the Police control room, of an incident occurring in a quarry in South Gloucestershire, at 02:05. The North Bristol Technical response team was mobilised, and stood down as the incident was resolved. The team was stood down at 02:25.

The CRO was called at 12:15 by GWAS ambulance control (EOC Avon). A full team callout was initiated to a young male who had come off his mountain bike in a remote plantation near Long Ashton. The team was required to assist the ambulance crew with the carry out, as the patient was believed to be badly injured. Te incident was completed and the team was stood down at 13:41.

The final task of the extreme weather ‘Gold Command Cell’ was to alert the team of a very high possibility of wide area flooding in the City Centre of Bath, during the early evening. As this did not materialise the team was stood down at 22:00 hrs.

The team was on extreme weather alert during this week in order to react to the immediate requirements of the police and ambulance services. To facilitate rapid to deployment as an when necessary: a team member operated in the ‘Gold Command Cell’ in Almondsbury, throughout this period as SAR advisor. The team supplied 4x4 response vehicles (SU and SX), with drivers, to the ambulance service and A&S police. They were deployed on many and varied tasks, throughout this period adding greatly to GWAS’s response capability. The team was finally stood down on Tuesday 10th February.

The CRO was called by A&S Police control at 16:50 to request assistance with locating a missing despondent, on the Coast path between Portishead and Clevedon. By the time the seam had been put on stand by the police had located the woman. The CRO was stood down at 17.12.

The CRO was called by GWAS control (Wiltshire) to a missing male who was believed to have fallen 20 meters down a cliff in Avon Cliff near Bath. The team was put on stand by at 22:30, and the patient was subsequently found by Wiltshire Police on the canal tow path. The team was stood down at 22:46.

The CRO was notified by GWAS control (Avon), of a despondent who was in a remote farm building in the Paulton area. The police sorted the incident out and the team was not required.

An A&S police log number was used when one of the team CROs went to the aid of a crashed motorised hang glider pilot in the Greater Manchester Area. This action was taken in conjunction with the local MRT and air ambulance.
